Whidbey Writers Workshop MFA Library

Literary magazines—Where is the best place to submit your work?

For a list of publications, there are several sites that keep better track of these things than your friendly NILA librarian can.  Each has filtered search options of various strengths and promises to keep their files up-to-date!

Duotrope is a low cost subscription that can help with the submission part of your work with their magazine database.  A monthly newsletter is included.

Poets and Writers is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization serving creative writers.  Membership includes access to their magazine database.

WritersMarket is a low cost subscription service that will show you where and how to sell what you write.

Writer’s market offers a sample listing comparison with its competitors; it’s obviously biased, but gives you some idea of the information out there.

Free online writing sites may also have listings:

Everywritersresource is a free resource (then why wasn’t it put first?)

Don’t forget about our own Soundings Review.

If you know of a literary publication that is not listed anywhere, please contact the librarian.
